As the designers and producers of Assembli DIY Decoration we are lovers of nature and fauna, thus we aim to only leave our actual footprints behind… and some brilliant, unforgettable fun designs of course 😉. We believe that sustainable interior decoration is not only better for the earth, but also better for yourself. The gratification of knowing that your purchase will not pollute the environment like most multinational companies is great.

Why do we create sustainable interior decoration?
Because we believe that is the best for our earth. Assembli’s DIY items are the perfect interior decoration for vegan animal collectors, entomologists and bird watchers. We reduce, reuse and recycle materials and strive for efficient use of energy and transport. Our designs also have an educational function for not only children, but all ages of the population. The paper insects contain a high level of detail for 3D paper puzzles. Of course we will never come close to what mother nature can create, but we sure do our best!
We are FSC®-certified
For all our DIY interior objects we use recycled paper as much as we can. Our company has an FSC certification for paper craft trophy kits and all of the paper birds. Look for the FSC-certified products on our website tagged with ‘FSC-product’ and marked with an asterisk (*) when choosing your preferred colour.

The round tubes that hold the paper kits are made from recycled kraft material. The paper and carton we use for the bodies of the insects, banners of the paper trophies and the packaging is all FSC Mix paper. Even the paper for our golden version paper craft kits is made from FSC Mix paper.
Not officially certified products also contain as much FSC Mix paper as possible.
FSC Mix paper means that the paper is made of responsibly sourced wood fiber that keeps our forests healthy. Read more about FSC labels on their website here.
By buying products with the FSC label you help take care of the world’s forests and the people that rely on them. Through this you are supporting: the change from preservation to conservation, zero deforestation, a fair wage and work environment and community rights.
Save the Bees
Let the bees thrive by sowing flower seeds. Our Honey Bee and Giant Honey Bee 3D puzzles each come with a free packet of mixed bio flower and plant seeds.
Add a little extra variety to the biodiversity around your house and provide a helping hand for the bees. *Every Honey Bee kit includes a small pouch with various bio flower seeds. Sow on a sunny spot in the springtime and enjoy the flowers and the bees and other insects all throughout the summer and even fall. The bio seeds are a mixture of buckwheat, coriander, cornflower, dill, mallow, marigold, mustard, serradella, sunflower, phacelia and more.
The bees and other insects will be forever thankful.

Paper craft trophy kits
An animal trophy on the wall. Makes you think of the well-known Dear, but our assortment is a lot larger than just that. Because you can create your own animal trophy from paper the possibilities are endless. From Flamingos to the extinct Sabre-Toothed Tiger, even Whale tails and the cute Shiba Inu dog. Create and decorate your home in your style, all animal friendly! As mentioned before, all of our paper craft kits are FSC certified.
3D puzzles
You might be familiar with insect pinning or bug taxidermy. It is a method of preserving insects or other arthropods. If you like the look of this, but don’t like the idea of using actual insects, Assembli has created a wide range of paper 3D puzzle insects, marine animals and arthropods to build and display. With metallic and shiny wings and harnesses the various butterflies, beetles, bees and more mimic the beautiful colours of the real world. All made of paper and cardboard parts!
Social Commitment
We work with 2 different social workplaces nearby our HQ in the south of The Netherlands. Social workplace companies offer a sheltered workplace for people who are at a distance from the labor market or have a little extra challenge in a (working) job. A part of the Assembli DIY products is prepared and packaged here. We then receive them back for finalizing and shipping.
We sometimes provide an internship for students/youngsters to gain working experience.
We reduce, reuse, recycle
- We reduce waste by producing efficiently, for example fitting 4 parts on 1 sheet of paper. This makes the most of the paper. The printing ink used is biological and we only use biological washing detergent to clean the presses.
- We also reduce waste by not using any unnecessary plastic material or packaging. The quality of the product is very important to us so we do want to make sure it reaches our customer undamaged. Instead of plastics we choose to use recycled paper sheets, transform old cardboard boxes into packing materials and use biodegradable packing peanuts for our most fragile items.
- We reuse (clean) packaging material as much as possible. We reuse all boxes we receive, either to distribute new orders or we process them into packing materials to protect the contents of a new package. For this processing we have a machine that can transform old cardboard boxes into packing material to use as padding for shipping goods. This may result in different packaging and fill ups: we use what is available to reuse at that moment. That said there is the possibility that you might find plastic as a fill up to keep the contents of your package safe, but this is because we otherwise would have to throw it away. We would rather use the material one more time before it inevitably goes to the landfill.
- In the end there is always material left that we ourselves cannot reuse anymore: then we recycle! We recycle paper by putting all paper waste in a separate container which goes to a paper recycling company. The plastic waste is also separated: the PP plastic is for Joop and his ‘Haute Plastique’ design products. The non-usable plastic is separated into a designated container, which goes to plastic recycling companies.
Energy and CO2 compensation to create
The energy contract we have is based on 100% green energy from solar panels and windmills. Besides this we aim for efficient transport and shipping quantities. We designed boxes to fit exactly 24 or 48 tubes to meet regulations in size and weight of transport companies. Resellers can help by ordering according to these limits.
When going to events we try to organize transport as efficiently as possible. We take our own car and carpool as much as we can. We have CO2 compensation on company cars. In 2023 we compensated 3143 kg of CO2. In some cases we work together with other Dutch designers and even then combine transport where possible. It’s also more fun 🎉
